Why I Support Making the Holy Bible the Official Book of TN
The Tennessee legislature voted to make the Bible the official book of the State of Tennessee. The bill has gone to Governor Haslam for his signature. The governor opposes the bill but has not, as of this moment, vetoed it. This is my open letter to Governor Haslam urging him to sign the bill.
Dear Governor Haslam,
I am writing to urge you sign the bill making the Holy Bible the official book of the State of Tennessee. I do this for three reasons:
- In over twenty-two separate verses the Holy Bible unequivocally states that we Jews are God’s Chosen People. For example: “For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth,” (Deuteronomy 14:2). The New Testament confirms this as well: “I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin,” (Romans 11:1). As Muslims and Leftists seek to turn Tennesseans against God’s Chosen People and their love the Promised Land
- The Holy Bible, and the Holy Bible alone, recognizes YHVH as God. Whether understood as God or God the Father, it is YHVH alone who is God. While alien gods do live in Tennessee (Allah, Krishna, and Ganesh being the most obvious), it is vital that God–fearing Tennesseans fear the right God, the One True God, YHVH. Making the Holy Bible the Official Book of the State of Tennessee will help insure we remain loyal to God and not be enticed to worship other, and clearly false, gods.
- The Holy Bible has been instrumental in creating the culture that defined so much of our state’s history especially with regard to slavery. The Bible legitimizes the institution of slavery, and while it does seek to set limits as to how slaves are to be treated, it nowhere abolishes slavery itself. For example, “Masters, treat your slaves justly and fairly knowing that you also have a Master in heaven,” (Colossians 4:1). Having the Holy Bible as our Official Book will allow us to shed the stigma of slavery and racism.
Given these three points I urge you to sign the bill making the Holy Bible the Official Book of the State of Tennessee, but to issue a proclamation making the Jews the Official People of the State of Tennessee, YHVH the Official God of the State of Tennessee, and slavery the Official Historical Treasure of the State of Tennessee. To help promote these ideas I would also encourage you to make me the Official Rabbi of Tennessee as well.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Rami Shapiro
